Since qualifying in 1985 Arthur has had extensive experience in all types of Private Client work, including domestic conveyancing, Wills, Trusts, Executries and Powers of Attorney, and some commercial conveyancing. He was head of a Private Client Department in a Glasgow Firm for many years before joining McArthur Stanton. He has acted on behalf of various builders and developers, for both plot sales and the management of developments, but he is now more typically involved in acting for individuals.

He has acted for clients buying and selling property in all parts of Scotland; everywhere from Shetland to Dumfries and from Harris to St Andrews. He takes the same care if it is the purchase of a small buy-to-let flat, or one of Scotland’s most expensive Palladian mansions. Whether a client is a first time buyer, downsizing or coming into the Scottish market for the first time, he will take the time to explain the conveyancing process, and advise on the best approach to any issues which arise.

He has vast experience in preparing Wills, and can advise whether a simple Will or a Will incorporating Trust provisions or liferents is appropriate. Likewise, he has completed numerous Powers of Attorney. For both Wills and Powers of Attorney he is particularly careful to understand the family dynamics and point out any pitfalls which may be encountered.

His experience in winding up Estates and his empathy with clients and family members is particularly useful at what can be the most stressful of times. He has experience in dealing with substantial Executries with considerable Inheritance Tax liabilities, and also with the smallest of Estates. Having been a solicitor for over thirty years, Arthur’s motto is “friendly and experienced, with expert advice”.

Dinghy racing gets Arthur away from the office in the summer, with curling being his winter pursuit.
