Our updates

Please note that of late we have been channeling all our updates, news, photos and so on through our Facebook and Twitter feeds rather than in the news section. In time we will likely be taking this section off the site and replacing it with something a little more social media friendly, so in the meantime, please click the Facebook or Twitter buttons above to connect with us there, and feel free to "like" and "follow" to join in our converation. It's a brand new world out there!...

Happy Holidays!

The Partners and Staff of McArthur Stanton would like to wish you all a happy festive (and hopefully relaxing) break, and all the best for the New Year. Our offices will be re-opening at 9am on 3rd January 2013, and we would be glad to see you then. 2012 has proved a challenging year in the current climate, but in the midst of a double-dip recession we have concentrated on upgrading our IT systems, opening up to greater communication via Facebook and Twitter, building up our letting and property department within a market beginning to wake up from its slumber, and at the heart of it all trying to make sure that our clients continue to secure with us the most efficient service possible. Those "grass roots" people have been talking about are beginning to bear fruit again, and as a result, there is no doubt that we're excited about what the year ahead will bring for the Firm, our clients, and the local community around us as we all look to steady ourselves in the future. We hope to see you soon. Yours aye.

Protest for Justice

We would like to confirm that the Dumbarton Faculty of Solicitors has decided to boycott the custody court at Dumbarton Sheriff Court today, 17th December 2012. The Government wants to change the rules for legal aid cases and we are protesting against these changes. We believe that these changes are wrong and that we need to protest. We believe that these changes will mean: ANYONE WHO HAS MORE THAN £68 PER WEEK DISPOSABLE INCOME OR HAS MORE THAN £750 IN THE BANK PAYS A CONTRIBUTION TO THEIR CASE COSTS; CONTRIBUTION LEVELS RISING SHARPLY MEANS MANY ON LOW INCOMES PAY ALL OR PART OF THEIR CASE COSTS; YOU GET NO REFUND OF YOUR CONTRIBUTION IF YOU ARE ACQUITTED (UNLIKE IN ENGLAND); SOLICITORS MUST CHASE CLIENTS FOR THE CONTRIBUTIONS AT THE SAME TIME AS TRYING TO GIVE YOU ADVICE AND REPRESENTATION (UNLIKE IN ENGLAND); A FURTHER CUT IN PAY FOR SOLICITORS; PEOPLE WILL BE FORCED TO REPRESENT THEMSELVES IF THEY DON'T THINK THAT THEY CAN AFFORD THE CONTRIBUTION; IT WILL BE CHEAPER TO PLEAD GUILTY THAN NOT GUILTY! We want you to understand that the independent criminal defence solicitors who work in Dumbarton Sheriff Court, many of whom have been in practice for years, take their responsibilities to the court and to their clients very seriously, and represent their clients in these courts day in day out to the best of their ability. Contrary to misleading claims made to the media, the Government refuses to enter into any meaningful discussions about our concerns, and as a result, we have no option but to protest by withdrawing our labour. We thank you for your support and understanding.

Ho Ho Ho!...

Many thanks to all those who came along to our Helensburgh Office on Friday for the Christmas Lights Switch On. It was a lovely way to start the Festive snowball rolling, and we hope you all had a great time. The Square is looking magnificent with the lights twinkling here and there - let's just hope that the rain stays away in the lead up to the Big Day!
